(Belgrade, June 5th 2002)

On the occasion of World Environmental Day, June 5, 2002, the Agreement for Cooperation on Producing of Daily Environmental Media Quality Report was signed in premises of REC Country Office Yugoslavia by:

1. Hydrometeorological Institute of Republic of Serbia, Belgrade; represented by Mr Mihajlo Gavric, Deputy Director
2. "StudioB" Radio and Television Broadcasting Company, Belgrade, represented by Mr Branimir Grulovic, Director and
3. The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), Country Office Yugoslavia, represented by Mr Radoje Lausevic, Director

The opening was participated by representative of Parliament of Republic of Serbia, Mr. Sinisa Mitrovic, acting president of Parliamentarian Committee for Environmental Protection, and Mr. Srdja Popovic, Special Adviser to Prime minister of Republic of Serbia for environmental issues and the representatives of media.

This Agreement will enable efficient flow of environmental information between relevant stakeholders but will also ensure efficient informing of the general public about quality of environmental media in Republic of Serbia.

This will also provide a possibility to establish cooperation with different mass media in order to publish/broadcast data on environmental quality from monitoring stations on a daily basis. As a beginning, the informations about quality of environment will be daily broadcast at the National TV Station "Studio B".

This activity, first of its kind in our country will significantly increase access to environmental information by decision-makers and public, facilitate implementation of relevant international multilateral environmental agreements and facilitate in-country exchange of environmental information.
