of Networks and Exchanges in the Countries of South Eastern Europe
Project component: West Stara Planina
Cross-Border project on the protection of West Stara Planina region has
been implemented in the frame of the Regional Environmental Reconstruction
Program of South Eastern Europe - REReP 4.3.23, Project «Promotion of
Networks and Exchanges in the Countries of South Eastern Europe» Project
on protection of West Stara Planina has been implemented between Serbia
and Bulgaria in eight municipalities: in Serbia (Dimitrovgrad, Zajecar,
Knjazevac and Pirot) and Bulgaria (Belogradcik, Berkovica, Cuprene , Ciprovci).
Project has began in September 2001 with the meeting of all key stakeholders
from the both sides, which has developed the joint future activities together.
Project Goals:
Promotion of cooperation in management and protection
of transboundary protected area of West Stara Planina;
Afirmation of transboundary networks and exchanges between local institutions
and people interested in involvement in the process of management of shared
resources;
Training and education of local population about the ways of communication
through the Shared Natural Resources of West Stara Planina, involving
representatives of media,
Capacity building of al key local stakeholders;
Promotion of technical networking and cooperation at the regional level;
Creation of joint database about Biodiversity of West Stara Planina
region as a base for future activities.
Activities:
Opening of two project offices in Belogradcik (Bulgaria)
and Pirot (Serbia) in February 2002 and employment of project offices
managers, whose role is to coordinate realization of project at the local
level;
Creation of bilateral group of experts and preparation of unique methodology
for implementation of planned analyses;
Creation of database of all key users (stakeholders), partners, on-going
projects in the region as well as touristic infrastructure of the region;
Bulgarian-Serbian festival of children performances «Our Stara Planina»
(Pirot, September 2002.), and Round Table for teachers/lecturers in the
region of West Stara Planina;
Granting Computer equipment to the Municipalities of the region of West
Stara Planina
Program of financial
support to local environmental non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on
the protection of the region of West Stara Planina
Completion of socio-economic analyze of the region of West Stara Planina;
Photo exibition “West Stara Planina in our Hearts”;
Festival in Bulgaria ( June 2003.);
Literal competition for creating a logo of West Stara Planina.
